REDCAR TOWN CENTRE UPDATE
The consultants, who are helping to prepare the new Local Plan, now known as a Local Development Framework, have been commissioned by Redcar Town Centre Management Executive to produce a Retail Action Plan for the town centre. This builds on the Strategic Retail Study, which will assist decision-making on planning proposals.
The Town Centre Action Plan will concentrate specifically on the nature & quality of the retail offer, leakage of expenditure from the town’s catchment, business performance, environmental quality, accessibility and the imbalance between different parts of the centre. The consultants are reporting to a working group of the Town Centre Management Executive and will also be sharing progress with businesses at a workshop on 29th March 2006.
It is intended that this project should then form part of a wider plan for the town centre to help to regenerate Redcar in the longer term.
